My Dearest Percy,
Hey there my sweet baby boy! It is only one week into summer vacation and I already miss you more than all the water in the sea. Things are going well here, I haven't seen a monster yet... other than Gabe, I saw him across the street the other day and he is still is disgusting as ever! I'm very thankful that I don't have to date him anymore!
Anyway, how are things at camp? I hope you are having a fabulous time! I know that it can get lonely there for you sometimes, especially in that big old cabin with no one there to keep you company now that Tyson has gone to work in your dad's undersea armory. Are you still having your nightmare/visions? I hope not, those things never do any good and always keep you from having the restful night of sleep that you deserve. Send me an Iris message the next time you can't sleep, okay? I will always answer.
Well now, I'm making myself miss you even more by thinking about actually being able to see you in person... lets change the subject! How is Annabeth? I hope that you two are still doing well, you two are such a great couple! I definitely approve of you being with her :) I used to think that you would never be able to have a normal, happy life... but now, with Annabeth, I can see that you could have that happy future that I have always dreamed that you would have.
We should probably change the subject again, I can see your cheeks getting red from embarrassment from here! I'm sorry for getting so sappy Percy, but a happy future for my only child is all that I have ever wanted. I know, I know, changing the subject! How did capture the flag go? I know in your last letter you said that it was coming up. Did you win? How is your training going? Still having trouble climbing the lava wall? How is Mr. D? Is he still being a pain in the you know what? I hope not, or I might have to come over there and give him a piece of my mind!
Well, I should probably let you go now, I know you have a lot of exciting things to do at Camp, just don't forget to write back to your mother! I know that you don't want it to end, but I can't wait until summer is over and you get to come home to me. I'll have a fresh plate of my Famous Blue Homemade Cookies waiting!
I love you, Percy,
Mom

We thought that a letter from Sally to Percy Jackson would be a good to include in our project to show how a parent might be feeling while her child is away for the summer. Kids often go to summer camp and their parents will write them letters to keep in touch and to make sure that they are having a good time. We thought that Sally Jackson would want to write a letter to Percy because she would be missing her only child. We included some personal details, like her ex-boyfriend Gabe, her approval of Annabeth and her blue food to show that she and Percy have a close relationship. Because demigod children are often in danger, it seems only right that Sally Jackson would want to keep in contact with Percy, to be sure that he is safe and happy. Letters are a good way to keep in contact with people who are far away and are missed. If this were real life, if Percy ever felt lonely, he could reread his mother's letters to him and not feel so alone, just as regular kids at summer camp do these days.
